Dr. K. N. Katju, the Governor of West Bengal : “The potter must make the best use of the clay which may be available on the spot and so, as engineers, you have to rebuild this India with its teeming millions steeped in poverty and that of its resources at present undeveloped. You have to build houses only of mud rather than stone. May all fortune attain your efforts and may you prove an instrument of blessing to your countrymen,” ( Annual Convention-1948).
Sir C. V. Raman, Noble Laureate & Scientist : What is Science today become engineering tomorrow. Engineering is certainly one of the oldest professions of the World, because the World has aways the need of engineers. When you are practical, you are an engineer and that is the reason why, I suppose, the Societie’s Journal is called “Science & Engineering.” (Inaugural Ceremony of Coimbatore Chapter-1939).
Dr. J. C. Ghosh, Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University : “In India, our aim should be to bring down at least by 1 % every year the percentage of population dependent on agriculture. Limitation of growth of family engaged in agricultural pursuits by deliberate planning provides one obvious solution and as a long term measure, is the best solution. Transference of populations from agricultural persuits is another solution.” ( Annual Convention – 1955).
His Excellency, Giani Zain Singh, President of India “I am satisfied at the fact that the India Society of Engineers had prepared and submitted engineering plan to the Government on the subject such as low cost Building for lower income group people of West Bengal and garbage removal in greater Calcutta area. I felt that this Society of Engineers could contribute a lot to the solution of technological problems facing the country in its march towards economic development.” (Golden Jubilee Convention, Inaugural Ceremony-1984)
